Around midnight on June 24 in Cajon Pass, about 35 miles north of Riverside County, a dump truck collided with a PT Cruiser in a fatal accident off of Interstate 15. Authorities reported that the wreck injured three passengers in the car and killed two others. The deceased occupants, 18 and 16, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was not hurt in the accident.

According to investigators, the crash occurred as the southbound truck was driving down an off-ramp onto Highway 138. The car was traveling west on the highway when it was struck by the truck. An employee with Caltrans who spoke with the news source said the dump truck ended up on top of the car after the initial impact caused it to roll.

The surviving passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, and one of them had been released as of June 25. There was no information on the specific injuries of the other two passengers in the news source.

The family of a fatal car accident victim will sometimes file wrongful death suit against the driver they believe caused the crash. While money will not make up for the loss of a loved one, it can help to take care of financial issues in the days, weeks and months after that person passes. Those expenses can include funeral and burial costs, vehicle repairs or replacement, the loss of the decedent’s income and any medical bills he or she may have incurred before dying. Attorneys experienced with wrongful death cases can help families recover restitution from the parties responsible for the deaths for their loved ones.
